Planning Issues 2

A large proportion of the ideas that we originally had had to be disregarded as we were going to do a rap song but the implied difficulties of trying to achieve the balance between being an authentic video that accurately represents the rap genre and being deemed suitable for a school board to mark is difficult e.g usually rap videos may have illicit substances, scantily clad women and heavy weaponry which we firstly cant get a hold of and secondly can not be seen to be endorsing as students in a school.

These extracts from Young Thug's 'Again' display the blatant drug glamorisation and the glorifying of heavy grade weapons.

Furthermore the focus on things such as lyrics and plain instruments makes it difficult to use a rap song which does not live up to those conventions.








However the rock genre lives up to these expectations which makes it an obvious choice for our final music video.

Planning

Elements of planning have been sources of conflict within our group from choosing a song to the actual choreography of the video itself. At first we chose a song called My kind of woman by Mac DeMarco, however, this clashed with the musical tastes of half of the group and created a dynamic that wasn't enjoyable to work in so we decided on a change.

After a short period of deliberation the song that we chose was called Black Magic Woman by Fleetwood Mac.

 

 

Further down the line it was decided that we would change again but this time it was to Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash.

Survey of Students

I asked students between the ages of 17 and 18 a selection of questions to do with their media consumption and placed the answers in the format of a graph:
