Permission

One of our group members sent an email requesting to use the song 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' by The Clash. Once we have a reply from the record label we can then implement their song in to our music video and comply with any conditions they may have for us using their content. For example they may ask us to not put the music video online which we would have to honour as they have allowed us to use their song. Below is a picture of the email sent to epic records asking for permission to use 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' by The Clash.

We also intend to use the song 'Cancion Del Mariachi' by Antonio Banderas also, to begin the video, so that we can use a genre and song change for effect. Below is the Email sent asking for permission to use this song in our project:

Technical Equipment:-Camera

The Nikon D600, provided by the schools media department for this project. The D600 has 1080p HD video, built-in HDR, an electronic horizon and more. This will help provide solid quality of our music video and prevent any bad quality shots from becoming a problem.

Costume

The costume choices made by our group were informed by the Western genre paired with influences from the media such as Pierce Brosnan and Clint Eastwood.

Filming updates

We attempted to meet up and film our music video during the half term we had over Christmas, however because it was difficult to have us all in one place to film we have decided top begin filming on the 16/01/2017

Location

The location of our filming is still up in the air as we had previously planned to use a pub called The Perch in New Brighton which is owned by one of our group's family members. However this could be difficult as we would have to work around the times in which the pub is open and closed leaving us with a small amount of time to work in the early hours of the morning which further restricts us as some group members may not be available at these times





Therefore we have had to use initiative and plan another location which we can use in case we can not use our first choice. We came to the conclusion that we could use a restaurant owned by a group members family. Furthermore the restaurant actually fits in to our theme as we are featuring characters with a hispanic background. Sombreros is also closer to all members of the group making it easier to access for everyone as well as providing an appropriate backdrop for the setting of our film.

Storyboards

During our discussions today we decided we were going to draw any ideas that came into our heads and decide on which ones would be suitable for the song and if they would be relevant or not. From these options it will also assist us in deciding which direction we are aspiring to go in such as the mood of the video.for example the bottom left box of the picture on the left giving connotations of a tragedy and sadness along with the one on the middle right.

 Our group have all agreed that our music video will be a mixture video combining performance and narrative ideas in the music video. Such as shots of us playing instruments, and also telling some sort of chronological story to follow.
The ideas for this video has been heavily influenced by the music video for our song choice, so we have decided to copy this as it adheres to Goodwin's theory of the music video matching the lyrics featured in the song.

Moodboard

This Moodboard is a representation of all of the types of items that me and my Media group will be using during the music video in order to create a Western atmosphere. With items such as rifles, Spanish styled guitars, sombreros and Stetsons having connotations of Mexico and Texas during the 19th Century. This will be particularly effective at making it obvious to the audience that the theme of the video is Western as each of these things are part of the Western stereotype grown from films such as the famous Western 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' (1966) and 'Young guns' (1988). Furthermore, so to address the conventions in relation to the hard rock genre, we are going to include multiple performance shots to show the mix of concept and performance within the video. An example of this mixture is 'Jeremy' by Pearl Jam ,a rock band itself, which has a music video with evidence of performance and concept ideas as the music video seems to follow no narrative and be very disjointed.
